WHY MOST NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS FAIL… AND WHAT YOU CAN DO TO MAKE THIS YEAR DIFFERENT!

Do you know people who establish a goal to become healthier every single year and continually fall short? I do… and it breaks my heart! Because the harsh reality is that their likelihood of mortality increases exponentially the heavier they are… and as of the start of 2025, over 40% of Americans are obese. Not overweight, OBESE! This means that 40% of Americans are at risk of ultimately succumbing to the consequences of an unhealthy lifestyle! And the frustrating part is… The secret to their lack of success in the gym every year is so simple and easy to understand. THEY DO TOO MUCH TOO SOON AND BURN OUT. And there’s no contingency plan for scaling back the intensity of the program once they mentally break… so they fall off instead…

Does this sound familiar? If so, then listen. SUSTAINABILITY IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR FOR LONG TERM SUCCESS!

Look… If you’ve never been able to routinely follow an exercise program and eat healthy, then what makes you think that you’re going to be able to follow a diet that is heavily restrictive, like keto? Or stick to the intense 7 day a week workout regimen that your favorite geared out YouTube influencer follows? I’m not meaning to sound harsh, you’re just not them. And besides… Just because you’re motivated today, doesn’t mean you’ll have the discipline 6 months from now to stay the course when your workload at work intensifies and life gets hard.

Stop trying to be a hero. I learned a long time ago that the best regimen is the one that you can stick to for the rest of your life. So find a system that is realistic and works for you, and stick to it! Because even if it is only 70% as effective as the flashy new program that you saw on instagram, you’ll still get way better results in the long run if you actually see it through! Longevity matters.

So start slow and keep things simple. If you’re just starting out, do 30 minutes of enjoyable physical activity 3 times per week, then build from there. Remember, any movement is better than no movement… so even on days where you don’t feel like hitting the gym, opt for a 30 minute walk instead to get the blood flowing! Nutritionally, commit to something simple like adding 4oz of protein to every meal… and if you’re goal is to lose weight, then remember… if you just move more and eat less and you’ll eventually get there! Regardless of your chosen path, just start slowly with a realistic goal and plan of attack! And as always, if you need help Gameplanning your success, then don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m only one short email or phone call away!

Happy new year! Now let’s go crush those body goals together… the smart way!
